IMS DiseaseAnalyzer: Data from physician practices in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Austria are available through the IMS DiseaseAnalyzer database.  The data are updated monthly and are very current.

Information includes:

  • Diagnosis

  • Medications and their costs

  • Reasons for prescription (diagnosis)

  • Laboratory results for some countries

Patient population sizes:

  • United Kingdom: 3 million

  • France: 1,100,000

  • Germany: 5+ million

  • Austria: 400,000

IMS and the Italian Pediatric Network collaborate to offer de-identified longitudinal data for over 160,000 residents of Italy age 0-14 years.  This includes: diagnosis, demographics, symptoms, visit reason, prescriptions given, dosage, lab tests, hospitalizations (including length of stay), vaccinations and specialist referrals

GPRD, the General Practice Research Database, is Europe’s largest automated database of anonymised longitudinal medical records from primary care. Data are being collected for 3+ million active patients (approximately 9 million total) from almost 400 primary care practices throughout the UK. Data include:

  • diagnoses

  • medications

  • laboratory results

  • hospitalizations

  • mortality

The GPRD Division is based at the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in London, an executive agency of the Department of Health.

The PHARMO Institute accesses the PHARMO Record Linkage System in the Netherlands, established at the universities of Utrecht and Rotterdam in the early nineties. The PHARMO system links de-identified patients':

  • use and cost of prescription drugs (U-Expo database)

  • diagnostic/therapeutic data from hospitals (LMR)

  • clinical lab and pathological findings

  • hospital drug histories

  • and GP records

Data are collected from about two million residents of the Netherlands and are representative of the Netherlands.  Not all data types are available for all cases. The PHARMO Institute collaborates on studies but does not release the data.

HODaR, the Health Outcomes Data Repository from the Cardiff Research Consortium (CRC), University Hospital of Wales, has clinical hospital data linked to a survey-based patient-level health outcomes and resource use database for de-identified respondents.  HODaR contains >50,000 survey responses linked to health-related utility, quality of life, productivity, clinical & laboratory data, and health resource use data.  HODaR can also be interrogated online using eHODaR.
